Who is Eligible?

Income
VLSP can represent clients with income up to 125% of the federal poverty index and, in some circumstances, clients with income up to 200% of the poverty level. When you call VLSP for an appointment, you will be asked to provide information about all income in your household. You may also be asked to bring proof of your income (for example, copies of pay stubs) to your first appointment.

Assets
VLSP can represent clients with very limited assets. When you call for screening, you will be asked to provide information about assets such as savings, bank accounts or investments.

Residence
VLSP represents residents of Monroe County.

Case Type
VLSP can help with a wide variety of non-criminal legal problems such as matrimonials, Social Security/SSI, Family Court practice, landlord-tenant conversions, unemployment insurance, bankruptcy, consumer and wills, among others. Some pro bono attorneys accept cases in which they provide full representation; others participate in VLSP clinics: Family Court Assistance, Debt Collection Advice, Pro-se Divorce, Wills Clinic or the Lawyer of the Morning Program in conjunction with The Legal Aid Society.
